Meet the Tea Growers: Ukraine, Germany and Switzerland
The fourth instalment of our incredibly popular series with tea growers around the globe. This event takes us to Europe for a second time, where we will meet tea growers in Ukraine, Switzerland and Germany.
From Ukraine, Maksym Malyhin will tell us about his Zhornina Tea Plantation in the Transcarpathian region, part of the remains of a large Soviet experimental agricultural tea station founded in 1949. The site was abandoned in 2000 and partially rebuilt in 2019, and Maksym now specialises in making green, dark oolong and black teas.
From Germany, Wenzhou Liu will explain her work at the Wudong Daoist Tea Garden in Alfeld, a town just south of Hanover. Wenzhou founded the garden in 2014 and added her Wudang Tea-House in 2016.
Also from Germany, Wolfgang Bucher will talk about Tschanara Teagarden in Odenthal-Scheuren which he and his wife Haeng OK Kim established in 1999. The couple make white, yellow, green, oolong, black and dark teas.
And from Switzerland, Tobias Denzler will tell us about the Japanese tea garden at Casa del Tè on Monte Veritá in the Swiss Alps. The tea garden was inspired by Japanese tea culture and includes a Japanese Zen garden and a pavilion. Tobias and his wife Corinne specialise in green and black teas.
